ZALORA - Category Director - Menswear

ZALORA is looking for a qualified and highly motivated Category Director Menswear. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Category Director will develop and implement the strategy for a sizable category of the business to help ZALORA provide the best of high street fashion for consumers in Asia. ZALORA’s categories are business units in their own right, being part of the Category Management team means contributing a sizable part of the business across SEA and sharing a level of P&L responsibility.

The Category Manager/Director will lead a team of experienced Buying and Merchandising professionals as well as will work closely with the other functions of the organization (Marketing, Finance and Operations) to run a fully functional business unit.

We are looking for an experienced and accomplished leader with strong industry experience and past P&L responsibilities.  The ideal individual will have demonstrated an ability to lead and drive high performing teams, develop and execute commercial strategies and manage brand relationships.  A great eye and passion for fashion are also of critical importance.

Singaporeans and PRs applicants are preferred. The role is based in our Singapore office.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive, manage and execute the Category Strategy across multiple markets in Asia.
  • Identify, acquire and manage brands aligned with company’s and category’s positioning to deliver a superlative customer experience.
  • Lead the team through the season/ annual operating process in line with the company’s focus and category expectations at a country/brand/sub-category level.
  • P&L management of the category through optimal sales planning and execution with the marketing team and inventory management
  • Drive improvements with respect to vendor management in terms of getting the right assortment, best-in-industry commercial terms and operational rigor
  • Ensure alignment between production, marketing, buying and logistics to offer the best possible representation and service to ZALORA’s customers.
  • Effectively lead, coach and inspire the Buying and Merchandising team - ensuring they have clear direction, are motivated and being consistently developed and up-skilled.
  • Comprehensive understanding of global trends, how this translates over time to product and our markets.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent is required. A MBA is preferred.
  • At least 8 -12 years’ experience in fashion buying, ideally covering Men’s focusing on the High-Street segment.
  • Experience in managing multi-category and multi-brands is preferred
  • Understanding of category management encompassing vendor management, inventory management and P&L management in a pure play e-Commerce environment is a plus.
  • Strong financial and analytical abilities.
  • The ability to craft and execute buying strategies.
  • Exceptional relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Hands-on, extremely pragmatic and entrepreneurial.
  • Broad, exploratory and structured thinker.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Senior presentation skills – someone who can meet senior representatives of brands across the world.
  • High personal standards for the quality of execution.
