Buying Planner

We are looking for Planner to take responsibility for the OTB forecast and management of budgets accounting for significant annual budget across multiple South East Asian markets. Reporting to the Category Manager, the candidates must succeed at planning and forecasting stock requirements and driving results. The planner will forecast future sales and profits for the category and key brands. He/she should assist in the definition of the assortment plan, then ensuring execution, documentation, and delivery.

He/she must be an effective communicator in working with multiple teams, with suppliers/vendors as well as internal groups such as buying, sales planners, and operations.

Other duties will include producing relevant trend analysis and building a detailed understanding of the product trends for South East Asia. Working across multiple internal departments outside of the buying team you will ensure smooth cross-functional activities between Operations and Buying departments. This role is based in Malaysia



  • Designing seasonal and annual OTB strategies by category/supplier
  • Manage Open To Buy (OTB) and item level forecasting
  • Build financial plans in accordance with merchandise strategies to optimize profitability
  • Drive decision making alongside Sales Planners and buyers to achieve financial and strategic targets
  • You will be required to produce, read and action weekly, monthly and seasonal trade information to ensure key KPIs are met, such as sell-through %, inventory cover and margin targets. 
  • Work with buying teams to build, negotiate and maintain relations with Suppliers for sales forecasts
  • Work alongside Sales Planner & Buying teams in developing action points for brands sales
  • Seasonal reviews on brand performance need to be prepared alongside buying teams, delivered with the recommendations implemented internally and externally that allow continued season on season growth.
  • Comprehensive understanding of global trends, how these translate over time to the product and then to the South East Asian market.



A strong Retail, E-commerce, Buying and Merchandising acumen along with strong management skills are required to drive the category forward in line with the overall company strategy. Being highly analytical with a passion for Excel and numeracy. The required experience for the successful applicant will include:

  • A minimum of 3 years working in professional environments with a focus on analytics (for Senior Planner)
  • High numeracy and analytical/quant demonstration
  • Educated to degree level
  • Able to work independently in a team
  • High personal standards for the quality and value of own work.
  • Strong attention to detail and high commitment to accuracy.
  • Willing and capable to be accountable. Self-starter in problem-solving to achieve results.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and be persuasive with colleagues and clients. Flexibility towards communication with people working remotely and in different time zones. Precise and timely responses to clients and their demands.   
  • Proven strong analytical acumen to identify and resolve business performance issues specifically in forecasting and planning models, and strong technical and operational experience. Highly numerate with applied, in-depth knowledge of MS Excel. Proven experience of data, reporting and analysis.
  • Ability to galvanize action to achieve results in a fast-paced, start-up orientated working environment. Willing and aiming to go above expectations. Has belief and conviction in his/her decisions.                         
  • Experience and understanding of fashion e-commerce and the associated strengths and weakness this route to market possesses
  • Previous experience in commercial organizations and experience of the buying cycle and associated processes.                                                                                                                 
  • Flexible working hours, willingness to travel, ability to operate in unstructured environments.
