As a Java Engineer, you will not only build high performance, scalable and testable components for our shop platform with Java, but also deploy them and document the setup with Terraform. We believe that a good understanding of every phase of the software development lifecycle enables us to write better code. Don’t worry if you haven’t worked with Docker or AWS before: we will provide training.
You will be working in a diverse, international setting with teammates who are experts in various topics. We often conduct workshops to improve our individual skill sets, and to improve our workflow as a team. The role is based in our Malaysia office in Kuala Lumpur.
Here is a preview of two of the projects you might be working on:
1. Replacing our memcached storage with an infinispan memory grid
All the products, categories, etc. in our shop were stored in a memcached bucket for fast access. This setup served us very well until we moved to AWS and wanted to use autoscaling. In order to make this work, we needed a clusterable solution that is available immediately after a new node starts. The result is an infinispan-cluster with a memcached frontend. We kept the protocol to make the transition as easy as possible for the clients. The rollout went quite well, but now we have to refine our software stack and work on improvements:
2. Evaluate document databases as storage for a new product service
We are currently using an optimized version of an entity-attribute-value model to store our product data in MySQL. After we added a lot of features, the storage model is becoming too slow, so we’re looking for a way to make the module stand alone as a service. To meet our new requirements, we are also evaluating document databases as a backend of this new service.

2. You should have the following qualifications
