Buyer (Private Label)

This is an exciting opportunity to join ZALORA’s Private Label Buying team, one of the most recognized fashion brands in South East Asia. You will be responsible for developing and executing a buying strategy for set of key categories within a brand. You will be responsible for being a strong team player, bringing commercial perspective and the customer point of view into the Planning, Design and Buying process.  You will be working closely with a cross-functional team which includes designers, product developers, planners and manufacturing experts.  You will be responsible for the financial success of the categories that you manage.  As part of the Private Label buying team, you will be an important part of the team that drives ZALORA business revenues and margins.

We are looking for a buyer who has industry experience in fashion retail and ecommerce who can create and execute buying plans, find efficiencies in the buying processes for the team, and demonstrating a strong knowledge of commercial decision making, customer-focused insights, product development and manufacturing.  A great eye for fashion trends and product detail are also important skills. The role is based in Singapore.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and develop monthly, seasonal and annual buying strategy for a set of product categories defining the product needs and assortment strategies delivering the budgeted business results at the sub-category level, working in strong partnership with Design, Planning and Product Development
  • Demonstrate best practices and process optimization in Buying including: range planning, assortment architecture, cost negotiation, buying merchandise and in-season trading
  • Analysing sales and all key performance indicators to identify opportunities and risks in the product assortment and buying plan to drive strong in-season business
  • Drive innovative, customer-facing ideas to ensure profitable market share growth within the category
  • Negotiate cost directly with external suppliers and ensure timely placement of Purchase Orders, working closely with Sourcing to maintain strong and strategic relationships with external suppliers
  • Optimize assortment productivity, working closely and collaboratively with Design and Planning to deliver the range plan for multiple private label brands
  • Conduct trend research and competitive analysis to develop strategic brand positioning
  • Work collaboratively with the key stakeholders in the Private Label team, as well as with Marketing, Production, Operations and Finance to create/implement successful Private Label initiatives

Requirements:

  • Holds a Bachelors degree
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in fashion buying, ideally covering both apparel, accessories and shoes focusing on the High Street segment. Experience in the South East Asian market a plus
  • Strong understanding of all phases of fashion collection and product development, from design to choice of material to product development to sampling and manufacturing
  • Experience managing a large and complex range, making budget decisions with target of maximizing profits
  • Strong team work and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work within a team to resolve complex problems
  • Data-driven approach to problem solving and decision making
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Hands-on, extremely pragmatic and entrepreneurial
  • Desire to work in a fast paced fashion environment, after having thrived in a similar setting
